"I'm hoping to do some good in this world!" -Hermione Granger
From January to November 2017, I worked as a fellow with the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Sustainability to host community conversations, conceptualize marketing outreach strategies, and engage with the city on the Resilient Atlanta initiative. The Resilience team gathered feedback from citizens across Atlanta, recorded all the electronic survey responses and in-person responses, and convened working groups of topic experts to come up with four visions and 16 target actions to make Atlanta a more equitable city.
Concurrently, I volunteered to take the lead on organizing a Black Girl Nerds and Electronic Frontier Foundation "TweetUp" partnership event for Dragon*Con 2017, as a way to promote the connection between advocating for digital rights and advocating for more representation in online nerd spaces.
These experiences, coupled with my father's strong commitment to community and leading by example, have instilled in me a love of civic engagement. In July 2019, I organized and promoted one hygiene kit making event as a response to a statewide call-to-action from the Georgia Alliance for Social Justice and El Refugio (which serves the families of men detained at Stewart Detention Center). With the help of 20 donors and 10 volunteers, we created 60 kits to go to men being released, and donated $95.25 for El Refugio to buy gas cards for visiting families.
Since that action, I have been building my activist list on ActionNetwork.org, and planning more volunteer actions. If you would like to join to receive information about events from local nonprofits and my upcoming actions, please shoot me an email with the subject line "New Activist"!
Thanks for viewing my Portfolio! I love connecting with individuals and businesses working to make a difference. Please reach out to me with photography requests, marketing requests, volunteer opportunities, or simply to chat!
